May
2012 Greetings
to all. We move ahead to the May meetings, where on Thursday May 10, 2012 we will hold our annual Westminster “Legislative
Update #C50987”. This meeting will feature members of our Maryland House of Delegates and Senate to deliver to us an
update on recent legislation from the Maryland session. As in the past, our friends at GBS have arranged for this presentation
to be accredited for 2 hours of either property/casualty or life/health in Maryland! Additionally on Friday May 18, 2012 we
will hold our Howard meeting and feature two one hour disability income insurance courses (“An Introduction to Disability
Insurance” #C31839 & “Disability Protection for Retirement Contributions” #C38217) delivered by our
friends from Guardian. Please be sure to register in advance for these great opportunities.
May
is our month for the Relay for Life. As in years past, Brenda Myers, LUTCF, FSS will be heading up out “Lifers”
team efforts. Please make an effort to help her by walking or contacting her to contribute (410-876-0500). Finally in the news this month
our national association issued this press release:On April 24, 2012 Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) have introduced the National Association
of Registered Agents & Brokers Act (NARAB II), which would establish a federal licensing clearinghouse for insurance agents
who operate in multiple states. NAIFA appreciates the efforts of Senator Tester and Senator Johanns to generate momentum for
NARAB II,” said NAIFA President Robert Miller. “The bill would go a long way toward removing some of the regulatory
hurdles that make it more difficult for insurance agents to serve the American public.”
Finally, attached is our board’s
recommended slate of officers and directors for the June annual association election.
Harv Tegeler, LUTCF, FSS, FIC
President
